he Government has announced that health education will become compulsory in all state-funded schools in England from September 2020 and this includes basic first aid training.
The new 3-hour Level 2 Award in Student First Aid has been designed for key stage 3 and key stage 4 students (11+ years) and fulfils the requirements of the Department for Education in respect of first aid training.
Not only would secondary schools meet the statutory requirements for health education, but students would also have the opportunity to attain a nationally regulated qualification, enhance their CV and develop new life skills.
Duration
Each course has a minimum duration of three contact hours in the classroom, consisting of practical and theoretical activities. (Maximum of two courses per day).
Syllabus
A range of subjects are covered including:
• What is first aid?
• Primary survey
• Recovery position
• Resuscitation and AED
• Choking
• Common Injuries
Certification
The practical assessment is ongoing throughout the duration of the course and the learners will be required to complete a multiple-choice question assessment paper at the end of the programme. A three-year qualification can be offered to all, subject to assessment.
Age limit
Students must be a minimum of 11 years of age to qualify
Number of candidates
A minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course.
