Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course (EPFA)

RQF Level 3 Award Qualification title: FAA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid

The qualification is designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies and provides knowledge and skills to deal with  a range of paediatric first aid conditions and incidents.

 

Duration

1-day course; Minimum of 6 hours


Number of candidates

A maximum of 12 candidates are allowed per instructor.


Syllabus

A range of subjects are covered including:

• Role of the Paediatric First Aider  • Primary survey  • Resuscitation (CPR including the safe use of an AED)  • Wounds, bleeding and shock  • Seizure  

• Choking  • Minor injuries  • Recovery position

 

Certification

Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor, and a three year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria. In addition, the HSE strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of three hours.

Paediatric First Aid Course (PFA)

RQF Level 3 Award Qualification title: FAA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid

The qualification is designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies on a professional level. This two-day qualification fulfils the requirements for first aid training detailed in the Department for Education’s statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.


Duration

2-day course; Minimum of 12 hours.


Number of candidates

A maximum of 12 candidates are allowed per instructor.


Syllabus

A range of subjects is covered including:

• Role of the Paediatric First Aider  • Seizure  • Diabetic emergencies  • Primary survey  • Choking  • Asthma  • Resuscitation (CPR including the safe use of an AED)  • Minor injuries  • Meningitis  • Wounds, bleeding and shock  • Recovery position  • Febrile convulsions  • Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis

• Fractures  • Extreme cold and heat  • Head, neck and back injuries  • Foreign bodies  • Electrical incidents


Certification

The qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.

Level 2 Student First Aid Course

FAA Level 2 Award in Student First Aid Qualification (RQF) -UK National curriculum (Statutory)

he Government has announced that health education will become compulsory in all state-funded schools in England from September 2020 and this includes basic first aid training.

The new 3-hour Level 2 Award in Student First Aid has been designed for key stage 3 and key stage 4 students (11+ years) and fulfils the requirements of the Department for Education in respect of first aid training.

Not only would secondary schools meet the statutory requirements for health education, but students would also have the opportunity to attain a nationally regulated qualification, enhance their CV and develop new life skills.


Duration

Each course has a minimum duration of three contact hours in the classroom, consisting of practical and theoretical activities. (Maximum of two courses per day).


Syllabus

A range of subjects are covered including:

• What is first aid?  • Primary survey  •  Recovery position  • Resuscitation and AED  • Choking  • Common Injuries


Certification

The practical assessment is ongoing throughout the duration of the course and the learners will be required to complete a multiple-choice question assessment paper at the end of the programme. A three-year qualification can be offered to all, subject to assessment.


Age limit

Students must be a minimum of 11 years of age to qualify


Number of candidates

A minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course.

Mini-SaveYu First Aid

Non-regulated First Aid course for children

The Mini-SaveYu course for children is a basic introduction to First Aid and Defibrillation which is proving to be very popular with all age groups and abilities. Whether the Mini-SaveYu courses are delivered in Primary schools, after school clubs or within the local community, children love to learn a new subject and they soon appreciate how important First Aid is!


Duration

Each course has a duration of 2 hours, with a maximum of two courses per day.


Syllabus

A range of subjects are covered including:

• DR ABC  • CPR  • Defibrillation  • Recovery position  • Choking  • Asthma  • Wounds and bleeding  • Treatment of wounds  • Treatment of shock


Certification

Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor, and a workbook with a certificate of completion for each child that completes the Mini-SaveYu First Aid training.


Number of candidates

The number of children per group would be minimum 15 and maximum 20 with ideally the age of 7 years old and above.

Where an organisation’s risk assessment of First Aid needs identifies that there is a requirement for Emergency First Aid at Work practitioners,  then this national Award in Emergency First Aid at Work satisfies the requirements of the regulatory body for First Aid - the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). All learners will have the skills and knowledge to provide the organisation with Emergency First Aider’s that can provide treatment to their casualties in a prompt, safe and effective manner.


Duration

1-day course; Minimum of 6 hours.


Number of candidates

A maximum of 12 candidates are allowed per instructor.

A range of subjects are covered including:

First Aid at Work Course (FAW)

RQF Level 3 Award Qualification title: FAA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work

    It is a requirement of the Health & Safety law that employers provide a safe and healthy environment to work in. If your assessment of first aid needs highlights the need for qualified first aiders, then this level 3 qualification (level 6 in Scotland) will provide you with suitable, highly trained personnel. This comprehensive three-day course covers a wide range of first aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with emergency situations with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way. In addition, this course will include any protocol changes that may have arisen since their last training course. This course will give the participants a qualification to the highest level of First Aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.


    Duration

    3-day course; Minimum of 18 hours.


    Number of candidates

    A maximum of 12 candidates are allowed per instructor.
