Unit title: Oxygen Therapy Administration
Oxygen is used as a medical treatment in both chronic and acute cases, and can be used in hospital, pre-hospital or entirely out of hospital, dependent on the needs of the casualty and their medical professionals' opinions. A common use of supplementary oxygen is for casualties with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the occurrence of chronic bronchitis or emphysema which is a long-term, progressive disease of the lungs that primarily causes a shortness of breath. This qualification is designed for learners to learn the guidelines for the use of oxygen therapy and be able to administer oxygen therapy.
A minimum of six contact hours, consisting of theoretical and practical activities.

This qualification lasts for 3 years. To renew their qualification after 3 years, delegates will need to retake the full course. However, it is recommended that, during the 3 year period, delegates attend annual refresher courses.
Number of candidates
A minimum of 6 and a maximum of 24 students can be accommodated on this course and all candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age to qualify.
