Unit title: Oxygen Therapy Administration
Oxygen is used as a medical treatment in both chronic and acute cases, and can be used in hospital, pre-hospital or entirely out of hospital, dependent on the needs of the casualty and their medical professionals' opinions.A common use of suplementary oxygen is for casualties with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the occurrence of chronic bronchitis or emphysema which is a long-term, progressive disease of the lungs that primarily causes a shortness of breath. This qualification is designed for learners to learn the guidelines for the use of oxygen therapy and be able to administer oxygen therapy.
A minimum of six contact hours, consisting of theoretical and practical activities.

This qualification lasts for 3 years. To renew their qualification after 3 years, delegates will need to retake the full course. However, it is recommended that, during the 3 year period, delegates attend annual refresher courses.
Number of candidates
A minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course and all candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age to qualify.
